The MondNacht is ready!

Op de valreep voltooide ik de MondNacht, twee dagen voor de Stitch ‘n Bitch-Dag 2007. De donkerblauwe kanten stola kwam mooi uit op mijn roomwitte lange rok en shirt. Tijdens de SnB-Dag heb ik zoveel complimentjes gehad, dank jullie wel!
In the nick of time I completed the MondNacht, two days before the Stitch ‘n Bitch-Dag 2007. The dark blue lace stole stood out clearly to my cream white long skirt and shirt. During the SnB-Dag I got so many compliments, thanks to all!
Het patroon van de MondNacht is te vinden in het Japanse breiboek New Style of Heirloom Knitting. De rand wordt eraan gebreid op de manier aangezet die al sinds eeuwen wordt gebruikt op oa de Shetland-eilanden. Na het breien van de onderrand volgt het lastigste deel met drie verschillende gecompliceerde kantpatronen. Hierna is het alleen nog even flink doorzetten, de rest van de stola is een repeterend patroon van twee waaiervormen. De stola wordt in twee delen gebreid en aan elkaar gemaast in het midden. Na het wegwerken van de losse draadjes houdt je een wollig frommelige lap in je handen die pas z’n schoonheid krijgt ná het blocken. Ons tweepersoonsbed was nét ruim genoeg.
The pattern of the MondNacht can be found in the Japanese knitting book New Style of Heirloom Knitting. The border is knitted on using a method that was used in the Shetland Islands for many centuries. After knitting the lower border the most difficult part with three different complicated lace patterns is knitted. After that you need a lot of perseverance, the rest of the stole is a repeating pattern of two fan forms. The stole is knitted in two parts and then attached to each other in the middle with the kitchener stitch. After weaving in the loose ends you end up with a messy piece of knitting that after blocking will look so good. Our double bed was just big enough.
