For knitters with at least half a year of knitting experience! 

The course consists of two classes (Twined Knitting Basic and Advanced Techniques). If you only want to learn the basic techniques you can choose to participate in Twined Knitting Basic Techniques only. In order to enter for Twined Knitting Advanced Techniques you must have done the Basic Techniques first (or after having consulted Carla if you think you have sufficient experience in Twined Knitting).

Twined Knitting is a traditional Scandinavian knitting technique that was used very regularly in the 17th century in Sweden. Two strands are used that are constantly twined at the back of the work. This ensures a more firm, stronger and especially warmer knitwear than can be achieved with the usual knitting techniques. By purling the stitches with one or both strands you can make beautiful patterns. By the way, using one colour gives a very different effect from using two colours.
In this course you will learn the basic principles and stitches used in Twined Knitting. We will discuss the specific characteristics of working with one or two colours.

The Twined Knitting technique is often used in small projects such as mittens and hats. We will also teach you how to do the necessary decreases, increases and putting in the thumb.

We will make a start by knitting a nicely decorated purse for, for example, your mobile phone. Participants will also receive the pattern for the 'Hannele' mittens.

Price: € 75

Included in the price is a package (yarn, knitting needles and/or accessories) with a shop price value of 10 euros. Also the lunch, consisting of a deluxe sandwich plus one drink at a restaurant nearby, coffee and cakes in the morning and tea and biscuits/chocolates in the afternoon are included in the price.

Practical to bring with you: some smooth, twined, left-over yarn to make samples, a crochet needle, scissors, tape measure, darning needle, stitch markers, pen and paper. An extra set of needles can come in handy but they are not necessary. You can leave your samples on the needles this way and take them home with you.

Programme (conditional):

• 10.15 – 10.30h. – welcome, coffee and cake
• 10.30 – 13.00h. – what is Twined Knitting? Casting on and the basic stitches
• 13.00 – 14.00h. – lunch
• 14.00 – 14.15h. – shop time
• 14.30 – 15.45h. – damask stitches and several decorative stitches
• 15.45 – 16.15h. – tea and biscuits/chocolates
• 16.15 – 17.00h. – sock needles versus circular needles
  Participants must be present between 10.00h. and 10.30h. in order to be able to start at 10.30h.

Pace of the classes is dependent on the skills and speed of the participants. The class will be given by two teachers, which makes it possible to anticipate the individual differences in pace and specific questions.
The classes are given in Dutch but it is possible for English-speaking knitters to participate in the class.
