Met standing ovations werd Vicky toegejuigd en na vele toegiften Vicky and The Capital Dance Orchestra We celebrated New Year in dazzling Berlin. The festivities at the Brandenburg Tor turned out to be one big party, with fantastic fireworks and performances by many artists, often still known from the 70s and 80s. Udo Jurgens, Marianne Rosenberg, the Scorpions and Kim Wilde gave their performances. For one moment, we understood that Vicky's current hitduet partner Scooter ("C'est Blue") also would perform, but this turned out to be incorrect. Two days before, we visited together with our friends Vicky's performance with The Capital Dance Orchestra at Tipi Am Kanzlerambt. Tipi was located in large tents in Tiergarten, next to the parliament buildings and the Reigstag. Inside it was decorated like an old vaudeville theater, which created a prewar Berlin atmosphere. This was reinforced by the music and presentation of The Capital Dance Orchestra. This Band from Berlin is headed by David Canisius and specializes in English, German, Russian and Yiddisch music from the 20’s - and 30's. This music was also played in the Berlin dance palaces during these days. For several years this band provides sparkling performances of well known German artists, such as Nina Hagen, Jeanette Biederman and Jochen Kowalski. The concert began with a swinging intro of the Dance Orchestra. Vicky anticipated with translations of her own songs into jazzy versions, singing chansons and other compositions that fit the genre of the Dance Orchestra. Vicky started her performance with a jazzy version of her Eurovision number one hit 'Après Toi', which was followed by a majority of songs, she regular performs at her concerts. Exceptions were formed by "Wenn du gehst” (“J'attendrai”), which was partly sung in French and "Wie ein Kind" ("Un enfant") by Jacques Brel. This classic repertoire, taken of her last two albums "Möge der Himmel”'(2009) and "Zeitlos" (2010) fitted the old Berlin atmosphere very well. That was also the case with some of her older songs, such as "Ich liebe das Leben" 1975 and "Tango d'Amor," Vicky's great tango hit from 1976. During the intro of this song she told about a concert in Holland and her good memories of the deceased actor Harald Junk, whose widow was present that evening. After finishing this song we were able to hand the somewhat surprise Vicky our curious inflatable tulips from Holland. Several songs fitted less on the theme, such as the Bette Midler cover "Aus der Ferne" Unfortunately this wasn’t her best concert we saw this year. Somewhat hoarse, she sang regularly on routine. The hastily poured cups of coffee handed by the nervous bandleader could not solve this problem entirely. Perhaps she was a bit overloaded, because of the considerable number of concerts and performances in recent months. This little problems didn’t bother the audience of the almost the sold out Tipi hall. They gave Vicky standing ovations and after many encores she, fulfilled could finish her concert and left stage with our tulips in her hands...
